At the August 26 meeting of the Elmhurst Park District Board of Commissioners, staff presented project plan updates related to Vision 2020, the District’s strategic and comprehensive master plan, which is a road map into the future as the District prepares to celebrate 100 years in 2020.
Six Vision 2020 priorities emerged as a direct result of community feedback, and presentations starting on Monday, July 22 combined with a facility tour on Monday, August 5 kicked off a series of updates to the Board, which detail the community feedback, concept and financial plans, timelines, and next steps for making these large-scale projects a reality.
At the August 26 meeting, the Board reviewed concept, cost impact, and financial plan presentations on three of the six projects, including an adult center, acquiring more open space and improving the condition and maintenance of parks and park amenities.
“The Elmhurst Park District is approaching its 100th anniversary next year, and the presentations on August 26 marked the culmination of nearly three years of asking the community what it wants the park district to be in its second century,” said Executive Director Jim Rogers, “What we've heard, and continue to hear, is that the community wants more, it wants newer, bigger and better, and we’re excited about trying to provide that.”
The next regular Park Board meeting will be held on Monday, September 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the Park District’s Administrative Office, 375 W. First St. At that time, staff will present funding options to the Board related to the six projects, including a potential referendum, and will also discuss surveying registered voters to gauge the level of support for funding the plan.
